Any type of travel leaves an environmental footprint, but thankfully, there are ways to continue to travel responsibly by minimising the climate impact when exploring the world. Or bringing back the fairness to the hospitality industry - which has been Bidroom’s mission since the beginning in Hague back in 2014.

The travel club provides direct access to the exclusive deals on hotel bookings and discounts on partner services, at any moment, anywhere in the world. Now, Bidroom will empower its global members with the option to act on climate change by addressing, reducing, and taking responsibility for their unavoidable travel footprint.

Travel Better, Travel Greener

Bidroom has teamed up with the Norwegian climate and tech company CHOOOSE to launch its new travel footprint calculator Travel Better, Travel Greener. The tool is designed to enable travellers to take responsibility for the carbon footprint of not only their flights but also accommodation and ground transportation. The purpose of the partnership is to build travel back better, once the travel industry eventually will be back in business.

“At Bidroom, we strive not only to cultivate an ecosystem of fairness, but also responsibility in travel. We value and promote sustainability in our conscious community of travel lovers, hoteliers, and partners who are all committed to leading a more eco-friendly lifestyle, in their travels or right at home”, says Michael Ros, CEO at Bidroom.

Bidroom has already introduced several initiatives to help members reduce emissions while travelling. Also partnering with Green Key Bidroom, Bidroom is expanding eco-friendly properties offered on its platform. Bidroom members receive special rates and privileges when they hire an eco-car in the greater Paris area with Marcel, allowing them to go green in Paris with carbon-neutral rides.

Additionally, partnership with UFODRIVE provides car rental for 100% electric vehicles, available in many locations across Europe. Now, the new partnership also allows the members to address their unavoidable footprint of all parts of the journey.

“We are proud to team up with Bidroom to create a better future of travel. It’s impressive to see how they take industry lead by incorporating climate action into their core offering - this will be an important contribution to building travel back better post-Covid.
With simple steps, Bidroom-members can now ensure that their journey's carbon emissions are being counted for and reduced via some of the best climate projects around the world. Users can calculate and compensate for the emissions from flights, ground transportation, and even accommodation. The contribution goes directly to supporting CO2 reducing projects verified by the most comprehensive and stringent international standards”, explains Andreas Slettvoll, CEO at CHOOOSE.

Leading a more eco-friendly lifestyle

All travellers who compensate for their journey will receive a certificate recognizing that the journey's carbon emissions have been accounted for.

As an example, a round-trip from Amsterdam (AMS) to Paris (CDG) with economy class would emit approx 240 kilos and costs EUR 2,01 to offset. The impact by offsetting the travel footprint will go towards verified carbon-reducing projects that actively combat climate change and help to improve health and living conditions in local communities.

“We believe we can pay it back by paying it forward. CHOOOSE makes it simple for travellers to address your unavoidable climate footprint by offsetting the amount of your journey to a verified organization working towards making our impact a positive one”, says Michael Ros, CEO at Bidroom.

Bidroom’s chosen impact projects are handpicked by the CHOOOSE independent carbon advisory board, and includes a wind project in Costa Rica and a tree-planting program in Uganda.

This project in Los Santos generates clean energy and displaces the emissions which would be generated by the national electrical grid. It is also the first wind power project to be developed in Costa Rica by a rural electrification cooperative.

Bidroom and CHOOOSE’s Travel Better footprint calculator will be available across all markets from November 27.
