Knowing that any travel leaves an environmental footprint, TourRadar now launches a new suite of tools to encourage sustainable travel and empowers its global community to act on climate change by addressing, offsetting, and taking responsibility for its travel footprint.

Today, the world's largest online marketplace for multi-day tours, TourRadar announces the official launch of its new partnership with CHOOOSE to make climate action available for global travellers. The latest travel footprint integration app enables customers to calculate and compensate for any type of trip, including flights, accommodation, and ground transportation, through a dedicated climate app on TourRadar’s booking site.

“Based on research, we know that consumers are looking to choose companies that are addressing sustainability as travel returns,” said Kaitlyn Duggan, Business Development Manager at TourRadar. “We decided to work with CHOOOSE because their product makes it incredibly simple for our customers to offset the emissions of their tours through simple and intuitive steps.”

Enabling travellers to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals

TourRadar’s customers will support a nature-based solutions portfolio consisting of sustainable forest management and land-use projects that protect natural ecosystems and wildlife, provide solutions for sustainable livelihoods, and empower communities. In addition, the climate portfolio supports multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, improving ecological values and social benefits for those hardest hit by climate change.

"Now that the world is slowly starting to reopen, we are extremely grateful for partnering with TourRadar to build travel back better together by combining climate and technology. TourRadar and its customers will help unlock real climate impact, which would not have happened without their support," says Andreas Slettvoll, CHOOOSE CEO and founder.

It’s no secret that the tourism industry was hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic. As travel starts to recover, TourRadar wants to build back better by making a more informed traveller and nudging customers to make responsible travel choices. Aviation alone accounts for at least 2% of global carbon emissions. Despite being a marketplace that offers everyone a choice, TourRadar realizes it has a role to play in making it easier for travellers to address the carbon footprints of their journeys.

Showcasing sustainability and low-impact travel

TourRadar will also showcase how tour operators are incorporating sustainability into their tours. As a result, customers will understand which businesses operate tours with sustainable initiatives, tours led by locals or are locally-owned, and tours where purchase supports community development and environmental projects. To do this, TourRadar has started to roll out a refresh of their operator pages, so that information on sustainability is more easily available to customers.

In addition, TourRadar has committed to providing information on responsible travel throughout its website and online magazine, Days to Come. Within destination travel guides, travellers can now find tips on visiting their dream destination responsibly and finding information on how the destination is making sustainable travel possible.

TourRadar and CHOOOSE's offset calculator is available across all markets. In addition, all travellers who compensate for their journey will receive a certificate recognizing that the journey's carbon emissions have been accounted for.
